Born on March 12, 1932, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Young emerged as a key figure in the Civil Rights Movement alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., serving as Executive Director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. He later transitioned into politics, becoming the first African American to represent Georgia in the United States Congress since Reconstruction.
